E-Soccer is starting back up once again for most sites within the next few weeks! As most have noticed, the morning weather has been a bit frosty for us Californians. When participating in physical activity in outdoor cold weather, it’s important to stay warm. Here are a few things to do:

•	Perform a light activity before stretching to keep the body warm
•	Wear sweats and a jacket (keep core/trunk warm)
•	Wear a beanie to keep your head warm
•	Consider wearing extra socks in case weather is wet
•	Always have water or sports drink with you to stay hydrated!

Now you’re ready for action, see you on the field soon!

Welcome to E-Soccer! Whether or not you or your child have actual experience playing soccer is irrelevant; at E-Soccer, everyone participates, and everyone grows together. Your first day at E-Soccer may be a bit daunting if you’re unsure of what to expect, so we want to do whatever we can to make your experience a positive one.

Rise up on a Saturday morning, get your soccer shorts on, and get the ball rolling! Flexible coaches will be ready for you, eager to help your child to have a great time playing soccer. Equipment and set up will all be provided by the E-Soccer Coaches.

Here are three things to prepare you for your first day at E-Soccer:

Bring water and pack a snack pack: Coaches are ready to monitor breaks and kids will have a chance to take a break as needed. Hydration is key so you can expect coaches to be looking out for kids who are getting weary.

Wear your athletic clothing: Athletic shoes or soccer cleats are recommended. Wear comfortable clothes for physical activities.

Have fun! This shouldn’t be too hard, but it’s always good to remind ourselves not to take things too seriously.

On a quarterly basis, we hold training sessions for all our coaches. These training sessions are geared toward instructing our volunteers in 3 areas:

How to coach basic soccer skills and drills for kids in an engaging and dynamic way

Understanding different special needs and how they affect children in the sports/soccer environment

How to adapt the drills effectively to meet the special needs while creating the best learning environment for the kids to excel.

For the first time this season, US Soccer Coaching will be making visits to each of out main county programs to spend a “day on the field” with our kids and coaches assisting them in their groups, giving recommendations, and evaluating how we can make constant improvements.

Be on the lookout for a US Soccer Coaching visit to your E-Soccer soon!

Nicole is just like every other 11 year old girl getting ready to start middle school. She is energetic, curious, social and artistic. Her lighthearted spirit and great sense of humor often makes her the center of attention as she regularly laughs and dances with friends.

Nicole is autistic, but that doesn’t stifle her ability to light up a room.

When Nicole’s parents, Shu and Minh, first heard about E-Soccer in Foster City four years ago from some friends, they were unsure about the program because Nicole had tried soccer before.

“Nicole tried to play soccer elsewhere before. It was a disaster. She was not able to follow and she did not want to participate at all,” said Shu.

However, they quickly discovered that E-Soccer was an entirely different story. “E-soccer is a much friendly environment for her,” Shu continued. “It’s non-competitive, the kids are friendly, and they have the most enthusiastic and patient coaches and assistants.”

Nicole’s bright personality is clearly visible on the soccer field. Her enthusiasm for relationships and the program is obvious and inspiring.

“Nicole brings all the energy to our group,” said Elizabeth Schaffernoth, Nicole’s coach. “She will talk to anyone. She cheers for other people and has so much enthusiasm. She enjoys being around people and loves being a part of the group.”

Nicole’s experience at E-Soccer has helped not only Nicole, but her entire family.

“Nicole’s younger sister Cynthia also goes to e-soccer every time Nicole goes. She learned lots of soccer skills there and she loves playing it. She also learned a lot about special needs there. We parents, enjoy meeting other parents with special needs kids. We often exchange information and ideas with them or simply enjoy the company of great people like them. It is a wonderful community,” said Nicole’s mom.

Nicole’s story is inspiring, and she is only one of many children whose life and family has been changed by E-Soccer.
